Previously, he served WBAY as a meteorologist. Prior to joining WCBD-TV, he worked at TV stations in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Savannah, Georgia. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society as well as of the National Weather Association. Fowler has received Seals of Approval awards from both weather organizations.
The National Weather Association named him the “Meteorologist of the Year” following his Hurricane Hugo report. In 1997, he was recognized as the state of South Carolina Weather Broadcaster of the Year. He was awarded the Best Meteorologist in the Carolinas in 2000 by the Radio and Television News Directors Association.
Governor Mark Sanford awarded him 2006 the Order of the Palmetto, (the highest award given to a citizen in South Carolina). His steadfast efforts every year to gather and share toys for Tots in the Lowcountry made the members of the United States Marine Corps nominate him for that award. The readers of the Charleston City Paper named him the top weatherman in Charleston 20 times. Readers of the Post & Courier named him Charleston’s Choice for Best Weathercaster and TV Personality, and readers of Mount Pleasant Magazine named him best TV personality.
He was enlisted into the NATAS Silver Circle Society in 2017. This award is given in recognition of a lifetime of service to the television business. It is indeed a moment in time that has been captured in silver and gold, and it’s an honor bestowed exclusively on dedicated broadcasters who have made an impact. Fowler participates in community volunteering in many organizations. He also visits with thousands of Lowcountry school children every year, and host school tours of News 2’s state-of-the-art broadcast facility.
