Back in the year 2011, there was a big tornado outbreak in the South. Savannah was in middle school when a tornado passed near her school. Teachers hurried to keep everyone safe, but Savannah was curious. She wondered why some things got wrecked while others stayed untouched, like a boat she saw. This made her interested in meteorology, wanting to understand why these things happen.
At the University of Tennessee, Tennyson joined a Tornado Chase in the Great Plains and witnessed a stunning tornado. She also shared a research project she did in college about long-lasting tornado outbreaks at a big meeting for weather experts in Boston in the year 2020.
During her college years, Savannah had the opportunity to intern at WKRN in Nashville, TN, where she worked alongside her mentor Danielle Breezy, gaining valuable experience in meteorology. Following her internship, she embarked on her professional journey as an evening meteorologist at KGWN in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Spending a year in the picturesque landscapes of the West, Savannah honed her skills and embraced the challenges of forecasting in diverse weather conditions.
While in Cheyenne, Savannah reported on a huge snowstorm in March 2021 that brought a whopping 31 inches of snow. However, Savannah’s heart yearned to be closer to home, prompting her to seek new opportunities. This quest led her to Springfield, MO (KOLR)
