She did internships at FOX Sports Pittsburgh and WJET in Erie before landing her very 1st job as a weekend news reporter and anchor at a TV station in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.
After that, she worked in different places: Parkersburg, West Virginia, first as a morning anchor and later as an evening reporter and anchor; then in Steubenville, Ohio as a morning reporter and anchor; next in Jacksonville, Florida as a reporter; then in St. Louis, Missouri, where she filled in as an anchor and reporter when needed; then in Pittsburgh, Penn at WPXI; and finally at KDKA.
Other than serving on TV, Bortz has also served the University of Pittsburgh Women’s Basketball Team as a Public Address Announcer for three seasons. She has also held the titles of “Mrs. Ohio United States” and “Mrs. Pennsylvania America”. Additionally, she has been honored with an induction into the Fayette County Sports Hall of Fame. She is a Distinguished Alumni of Geibel High School.
