Sidney Powell Career
Powell always aspired to be a lawyer when she was young. She started her career as a lawyer when she was very young. She worked as a prosecutor for the government. Powell started working as an assistant lawyer for the US government in Texas. While working there, she handled significant cases. For example, she prosecuted Jimmy Chagra, who was involved in the assassination of a judge in May 1979. Powell also provided legal representation for executives during the Enron scandal. In the year 2019, she defended retired lieutenant general Michael Flynn in a case called United States v. Flynn.
In the year 2020, Powell became part of the group of lawyers helping then-President Trump. They wanted to change the result of the 2020 election which Joe Biden won. Powell talked a lot about election problems that were not true. Trump’s team then said they were not working closely with her anymore, but she still went to meet the president at the White House. Powell went on her own to court to file cases about the election, but she lost in 4 different states: Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Georgia. For this, the State Bar of Texas wanted to punish her, maybe even take away her license to practice law (disbar).
Powell said that Michael Flynn was set up by a secret group within the government called the “deep state.” She also talked about QAnon’s ideas. She believed in a hidden worldwide plan that included people like communists, globalists, and others. They were supposed to have used voting machines to take votes from Trump in the 2020 election. Powell also accused Dominion Voting Systems and Smartmatic of cheating in the election. Because of this, those companies took her to court for saying untrue things about them.
In August 2021, a judge in Michigan named Linda Vivienne Parker punished 9 lawyers, including Powell, who were connected to a conspiracy theory from Texas. These lawyers were supporting Trump and wanted to change the election outcome. The judge said they did something really wrong by filing fake and unnecessary lawsuits.
They did this to make people not trust the fairway we vote in our country. The judge told them to pay money to Michigan and Detroit for the trouble they caused. The judge also told others who watch over lawyers to check if Powell and the other lawyers should still be allowed to practice law. In February 2023, a judge in Texas said that a request from a group of lawyers to punish Powell for breaking the rules of how lawyers should work was not accepted.
Sidney Powell Lawsuits News / Dominion
a). Independent Lawsuits
While helping Trump, Powell said she would “release the Kraken,” a phrase from a movie that became popular on Twitter. Even after Trump’s team stopped working with her, Powell kept filing her own lawsuits about the election in different states. People found mistakes in Powell’s legal papers about the election. For instance, she said a computer program changed votes in Georgia, but later she changed her story. Her papers had errors like misspelled words and wrong names of places and people.
Powell talked about a secret witness named “Spyder” who said other countries like Iran and China messed with our voting systems. But his real name was Joshua Merritt, a computer expert. Powell also had a statement from someone who knew about a foreign plot against our democracy. Powell said this person needed to stay secret for safety. However, it turned out this person was a podcaster named Terpsichore Maras-Lindeman, who had some problems in her past. She wasn’t really an expert.
b). Defamation Lawsuits
Dominion Voting Systems told Powell to take back her false claims in December 2020. Trump’s team also told their staff to keep documents about Dominion, Powell, and others. On January 8, 2021, Dominion sued Powell for saying untrue things and asked for $1.3 billion. Smartmatic also sued her and others for $2.7 billion, but their case was later dismissed in March 2022.
Powell’s lawyers tried to stop Dominion’s lawsuit by saying her words were just opinions, but the judge didn’t agree and the lawsuit continued. More legal actions are happening with Powell and others. They will have interviews and motions until September 2023. In December 2021, a businessman sued Powell, Fox News, and Lou Dobbs for $250 million, saying they wrongly blamed him for cheating with voting machines.
Sidney Powell Disbar
Powell went to court against Michigan’s governor and officials, saying there were problems with the election. She wanted the court to change the results or make them right for Trump. In her case, she talked about a place called Edison County, but there isn’t one in Michigan or anywhere else in the U.S. People think she got this from a list of places in Minnesota.
A judge named Linda V. Parker said no to what Powell wanted on December 7. She said Powell and others only had guesses and ideas, not real proof. The judge said it was too late for most of what they wanted, and some things were impossible. The judge also thought that what Powell was doing would hurt the public and make people not trust the government. Powell didn’t give up and tried to get other courts to look at her case, but they said no too.
In August 2021, Judge Parker said Powell and some other lawyers were doing bad things. They were using the court for the wrong reasons and making up stories to make people not trust the election. The court said they had to pay money to the city and state for causing trouble, and they might lose their lawyer licenses. In November 2021, there was a secret meeting to see if Powell should be in trouble with the law for what she did. In December, Judge Parker said Powell and others had to pay more money for causing problems.
Sidney Powell QAnon Conspiracy
Some people say Powell believes in something called QAnon, which is a strange idea. QAnon says that bad people who worship Satan are secretly doing very bad things, like hurting kids (trafficking) and planning against the former president, Trump. They think Trump is fighting against these bad people. In January 2020, Powell said she didn’t know about QAnon, but later she shared QAnon things online and went on QAnon shows on YouTube.
After Powell left the legal team that worked for Trump, QAnon followers liked her. They were sad because they thought Trump would definitely win and reveal bad things about his enemies, but it didn’t happen. On January 8, 2021, Twitter banned Powell, Michael Flynn, and others because they were doing harmful things together. Twitter said this was because they were coordinating harmful actions. In May 2021, Powell, along with Lin Wood and Michael Flynn, spoke at a big meeting related to QAnon in Dallas, Texas.
Sidney Powell Tucker Carlson
On a TV show called “Tucker Carlson Tonight” on Fox News, a person named Tucker Carlson talked about another person named Powell. Powell had some big claims, and Carlson wanted her to show proof on his show. He asked her many times, but Powell got mad and said he should stop talking to her. Carlson’s team asked other people from Trump’s group, and they said Powell didn’t give them any proof for her claims.
Later, Giuliani and Ellis, who were part of Trump’s legal team, said Powell was doing her own law practice and wasn’t with them anymore. They said this on November 22. The Trump team stopped working with Powell because they thought she was making things worse for them, and Trump didn’t like how she was talked about on Tucker Carlson Tonight. After this news, a person named Michael Flynn, who was Powell’s client, said on Twitter that she got suspended from Twitter for a while. He also said he agreed with the Trump team’s announcement and that Powell was going to keep trying to prove that there was fraud in the election.
Sidney Powell Philanthropy
In the year 2004, Powell started a group to help people hurt by family problems (DV). She also volunteered for homes where women go when they need help (women’s shelters) and other groups that help others. People who met her in these groups didn’t think of her as strongly believing one way or very into politics. In the year 2013, Powell helped make a movie called “Decoding Annie Parker.” This movie is about Annie Parker and finding a gene that can cause breast cancer. Powell arranged special movie showings to get money, and around $1 million was collected for groups that fight breast cancer.
Sidney Powell Drinking Dr. Pepper
On July 12, 2022, Powell was a witness in a special hearing about January 6. But something else caught a lot of attention too: what she was drinking. She had a Diet Dr. Pepper, and people noticed it a lot. While Powell was talking on video, she took a big sip from the Diet Dr. Pepper, which has 23 flavors, and put it back on the table, showing the logo.
This was different because Dr. Pepper is one of the favorite sodas in the U.S. People who like the soda (and who like excitement) went on Twitter to talk about it. They thought maybe she didn’t mean to show the soda, but it looked like an advertisement.
