Because of the accident, he developed two conditions: visual agnosia, which affects his ability to recognize things he sees, and aphasia, which makes it hard for him to understand and use language. Schaefer serves at FOX 8 News as a noon/morning anchor. She appears on the 8, 9, and noon newscasts. She started her career as a reporter and anchor for Good Day Cleveland at Fox 8. Then, in 2006, she got a chance to host a show on a national TV network. They filmed the show at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Besides working in TV news, she loves music a lot. Even today, she stays connected to music by singing the National Anthem for sports teams in Cleveland and professional teams on the west coast. For over 20 years, she also taught singing and dancing at a performing arts center owned by her family in Alliance, Ohio.
Schaefer has been very involved in the events and celebrations at the Professional Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH. During her career, she received a number of honors and accolades for her outstanding work. One big achievement was on September 14, 2008, when she was inducted into the Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 1989, she was honored as Young Woman of the Year and Ohio’s Junior Miss, and she also received the Ohio Governor’s Choice Award. When she is not working she likes to scuba dive, teach voice singing, dance, or eat chocolates (she calls herself a chocoholic!).

In May 2023, Schaefer had a bad accident while doing yard work, and she had to go to the hospital. She wrote about it on social media and said she heard and felt pops during the accident, which caused a tear in her hamstring where it connects to the pelvic bone.
Schaefer thanked Dr. James Rosneck from the Cleveland Clinic for doing her surgery. Because of the injury, she couldn’t walk for six weeks to two months, and maybe even longer. Also, Schaefer couldn’t sit normally, so she’s been using a wheelchair since the accident at home. She said it will take a long time to get better, and the recovery process will be painful. She’ll have to start walking slowly again.
