Sydney Wicker Career

Wicker serves at WTOK as a weekend sports anchor and reporter. Before joining WTOK, she worked for Colorado Prep Spotlight as a part-time Play by Play Broadcaster. Also, she served at FOX Sports as an FS1- Daily Shows Intern for 4 months. Wicker has worked for Collegian Television 11 for 3 years and 2 months as a sports anchor/reporter/director, assistant executive producer, and Laced Up Founder. 

As a toddler, Wicker used to go to games at the Big House with her father. She was fully bought into the University of Michigan die-hard fan with her family. For more than 2 decades, Wicker’s family has been holding season tickets and they make it to every home game all throughout the season. What actually made Wicker become fascinated with sports are her travels to Ann Arbor, through the rain, heat, and snow. Her love for sports grew when her family moved to Pueblo, Colorado, where she was playing soccer, an athlete, and an avid fan of sports.  

During her stint in college, she worked for the daily shows on Fox Sports and worked as an intern at KKTV-11 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At KKTV, she was enhancing her storytelling, filming, and writing skills. While there, she was assigned to the 4A State Baseball Championship and to the Broncos training camp.

Among her memorable experiences in her career, learning and growing as a storyteller in Atlanta, Georgia with a woman in, “GALvanize,” a sports organization, is one of them. She conducted an interview with a Falcons rookie in a supportive and empowering environment, and that became an inspiration to her to begin the first-ever women in sports show at Colorado State University. The stories that aired in the show won the Society of Professional Journalist Award and several Hearst Journalism Awards. 

Mentioning her education, Wicker graduated from Pueblo West High School and then attended Colorado State University. She graduated from the university in the year 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication.

During her leisure time, she likes catching up with family, for example checking on and speaking to her mom 3 times a day. She also likes traveling and exploring the outdoors when she is free. Wicker says that it is exciting to explore West Alabama and East Mississippi and to dive into SEC football.
