In 2008, readers of washingtonpost.com’s “Capital Weather Gang” voted him as their favorite local weathercaster. Before his time in Greensboro, he served as a weekday weather anchor at WTVK in Knoxville, Tennessee, from 1984 to 1987.
Shutt’s career in broadcasting began as a weather producer and substitute weather anchor at CNN Atlanta from 1981 to 1984. His interest in forecasting dates back to his fifth-grade years. He was awarded the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society for both television and radio in 1988.
From 1994 to 2000, he worked as a substitute on the CBS network’s “CBS This Morning” program, filling in for Mark McEwen and Craig Allen. Additionally, he co-founded Automated Weather Source in 1992, a company dedicated to placing automated weather stations in elementary schools across the Metro region.
Beyond his broadcasting duties, he frequently speaks about meteorology at regional schools and rotary clubs, and he serves as an emcee at various charitable events. Shutt also enjoys spending time with his family, engaging in yard work, tackling house projects, playing golf, and of course, forecasting the weather.
