Blackwell has done live coverages on several headlines that include the network’s Emmy-nominated coverages on the Ohio, Texas, El Paso, and Dayton shootings. He also covered Hurricane Dorian which devastated the Bahamas’ citizens.
Blackwell played a major role for the network during the coverage of the 2020 protests on the deaths of George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks. He also reported on the 2017 Hurricanes, Harvey and Irma, his hometown protests on the deaths of Freddie Gray (2015) and Georgia teen Kendrick Johnson (2013), and the 2016 Orlando Pulse Nightclub shootings among many others.
Blackwell in 2018 marked the 50-year anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s death by conducting interviews with Reverend Jesse Jackson. He also interviewed civil rights icon, Ambassador Andrew Young, at the Memphis motel where the King’s shooting took place. This was the first time the two visited together since King’s death.
Previously, Blackwell worked at West Palm Beach, Florida at WPBF 25 News where he served as an anchor. There he was accorded several awards that include two Telly awards, several regional Emmy nominations, honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, and several Associated Press awards.

Blackwell also tenured in Baltimore at Radio11 WBAL where he served as a producer and co-producer at WHUT-TV in Washington. He also worked at WHAG-TV in Hagerstown, Md, and WPMT-TV in York, Penn.
