Wayne Dawson is an American 11-time Emmy Award-winning Anchor/Reporter/Host working for Fox 8 News – WJW in Cleveland, Ohio as a weekday morning news anchor. He has been working for the station since the year 1981 after working for WNIR-AM.
He appears on the 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. newscasts. Dawson began as a weekend evening news co-anchor at the station for 5 years. Before joining FOX 8, he worked for WNIR-AM Radio in Kent, Ohio as a news anchor/reporter for 2 years. When coming to his education, Dawson is a proud alumnus of Cuyahoga Community College. He is also a 1979 alumnus of Kent State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Journalism.

In June 2007, Dawson made a joke on the morning news program Fox 8 in the Morning about his fellow reporter Kenny Crumpton, saying he could “play a skin flute.” Someone recorded the moment and uploaded it to YouTube, but WJW-TV Channel 8 asked for the video to be taken down. Later, he was also involved in a situation where his co-anchor Kristi Capel made a comment using the word “jiggaboo.”

In June 2023, Dawson and his brother, William, gave $1,000 in scholarships to eighteen students who were working towards getting college degrees. They did this as part of the Dawson Foundation’s mission to motivate young people to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities. At the ceremony, they were encouraged not only to be successful but also to become good leaders and always have a desire to give back to others.
