Zendaya attended Fruitvale Elementary School and while there, she performed a play for Black History Month when she was six years old. She also joined Future Shock Oakland, a hip-hop dance troupe and was the Academy of Hawaiian Arts hula dancer. Zendaya’s development as a performer was influenced by her experiences at the California Shakespeare Theater in Orinda, California, where her mother held a summer position as the house manager.
