In regard to his profession, South serves at WJTV 12 News as a Chief Meteorologist. His forecasts have been appearing on the morning newscasts, since January 2001. She was initially a weekend meteorologist. Besides working on TV, South has also been working as a real estate agent at Overby, Inc. in Ridgeland, Mississippi since April 2017.

Before joining WJTV, South worked for WTVM-TV in Columbus, Georgia as a weekday reporter and weekend meteorologist for 1 year and 1 month (December 1993 – December 1994). He served at WXVT/WFXW in Greenville, Mississippi as a Chief Meteorologist for 3 and a half years (from July 1990 to December 1993), before going to WTVM-TV. It was at WXVT that he actually started his career in broadcasting.

During college, South worked on research projects at the Stennis Space Center. He also gained experience at the National Weather Service, where he did different tasks. These included helping with radiosonde observations, recording forecasts for NOAA Weather Radio, and assisting in creating river stage forecasts.

South received the Best Weathercast in Mississippi award from the Associated Press in the years 2010 and 2001. Additionally, he serves on the board of The Center Players Community Theatre in Madison and actively participated in fundraising and awareness efforts for MS HeARTS Against AIDS for 9 years (2002 – 2011). South also holds an American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval.
