He joined the station in June 2009 as the sports director. Before joining the station in 2009, he worked as a sports anchor and reporter for KHQ-TV for nearly five years.

Derek Deis Education
Deis joined Washington State Universitys Edward R. Murrow School of Communication in 1995 after completing his high school studies. In 1999, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Broadcast Journalism.

In September 2011, Deis was promoted to weekday anchor of Good Morning Northwest from 5 to 7 a.m. and reporter on the Made in the Northwest franchise. He held that role for 12 years until he was promoted to his current role in October 2023.
Some of his career highlights include the 2001 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle, covering the Cougs in the 2003 Rose Bowl, meeting Sugar Ray Leonard, and the inspirational athletes he has covered over the course of his career.
Before working for KXLY, Deis worked for KHQ for almost 5 years. There, he was a sports anchor and reporter. In 2009, he received an Emmy Award for his sports reports. He launched his broadcasting career in 1999 at KNDU-TV in the Tri-Cities. He spent 4 years at KNDO in Yakima before moving to the Lilac City.
