Mathews’ broadcasting experience was gained from working for multiple stations in Missouri and Illinois. He developed a passion for broadcasting ever since his tender age. His grandmother went to an extent and bought him a reel-to-reel tape recorder, recorded reels of fake broadcasts.
Shortly after High School, he got his first broadcasting job, reporting city council meetings and school board for the local radio station. After college studies, he worked as a DJ for weddings and also for various radio stations. During his time in Jefferson City, he made the transition from radio to television. He got his first on-air job at KRCG as their weekend weathercaster. After 2 years of time at KRCG, he joined KODE in Joplin on Good Morning Four States.
He began with the weather, duties grew over the years and he became the Executive Producer of the show. In the course of his 17 years at KODE, he got an opportunity to interview many people, including event organizers, celebrities, local officials, and the government. During his time in Joplin, the 2011 Joplin tornado that killed 161, destroying a good portion of the town including his own home was one of the biggest stories he covered.
During his free time, he enjoys spending quality time with family and friends, cooking, as well as attending sporting events. In addition, he is a big fan of music and movies, attends live music events, and goes to the theater. He is also an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks, the Chicago Cubs, and because of her wife the Kansas City Chiefs.
