He joins the KMTR team with 22 years of experience as a meteorologist. This includes working with the Air Force, National Weather Service, and television. Moreover, he holds the AMS and CBM Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Additionally, the award makes him a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM). It is mostly awarded to broadcast meteorologists who demonstrate the highest level of competency and expertise in communicating climate information, water, and complex weather.

Further, his career as an army officer began after high school and during the Persian Gulf War, he was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Upon graduation, he got his first job at WTAP in Parkersburg, WV. Later, he got his second job with WOWK in Huntington, West Virginia. After his work with the WOWK, he decided to move back to the military where he worked with the Air Force as a meteorologist in commission.

Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV offered him a job. There, he was able to provide weather support to the Air Force Top Gun school, Air Force Thunderbirds, and many other key missions. Later, he rose to the Captain’s rank and was stationed in Scott AFB outside of St. Louis. In this area, he was a commander of over 50 Airmen and he had the mission to provide weather services for dozens of Army and Air Force bases. Later in 2010, he left the army to join another TV job in Salt Lake City.

Chevy then worked for the National Weather Service in Honolulu, Hawaii. Later he retired from the military/government in August of 2020 where he had 22 years of proud service to his nation and returned to his passion for broadcast journalism where he still works One of his amazing experiences as a meteorologist is when he delivered a live weather forecast on TV while he was in a hot air balloon.

His team at the National Weather Service’s Central Pacific Hurricane Center in Honolulu tracked three major hurricanes at the same time. However, the most exciting of all was working as a meteorologist at Nellis AFB. He also went on a familiarization flight in an F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet. He got a chance to take the stick and fly solo for a little while with a trained pilot in the front seat. There, he was able to go through barrel rolls, fly upside-down, pull upwards of 9 Gs several times, and break the sound barrier.
