Martin has served at CBS 5 San Fransisco as a news anchor and reporter at the station. There he co-anchored the 6 pm weeknight newscasts through all KPIX 5 channels and filed special reports. He retired from his career in June 2022. In his retirement announcement, he stated that he would move to Central Oregon. Martin uncovered the Central Valley version of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan when he found arsenic running through the drinking water of Kettleman City. He announced that poachers were butchering the magnificent redwoods of Northern California for profit. And, he discovered an assault rifle ban loophole in California. His series of bullet button studies caused California to implement multiple forms of gun regulation.

Allen began broadcasting when he was producing a radio talk show for KLOS as a junior in college. He took a job as a disc jockey in Sacramento in his senior year, flying up on weekends to work and back to school during the week.

He worked in Sacramento, Los Angeles, and San Francisco for radio news after graduating. In 1983, at a news talk radio station, he moved to Atlanta for a job. Before taking a TV writing position at CNN’s Headline News, Allen was recruited to CNN’s Radio Network. He accepted his first on-air TV job in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1986.

Allen returned to his native California to be a principal anchor at the Salinas NBC affiliate, after five years and promotions to assistant news director and principal anchor. He spent four years there, co-anchoring with the famous Dina Ruiz, married to Clint Eastwood. Allen accepted the principal anchor role at KFOR in Oklahoma City just after the Oklahoma City bombing.

He was told his fresh perspective would allow him to tell a better story when he asked his news director why he got the assignment. After the crime scene was opened up to the public, Allen was the first reporter to reach the Murrah Federal Building.

Allen returned to California and the Monterey Peninsula in 1998 to anchor and serve as the CBS / FOX affiliate stations’ assistant news chief. He made his way, six years later, to the Bay Area and KPIX 5. He began as a reporter for South Bay and subsequently anchored numerous newscasts.

When coming to his education, he is a grad of Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Allen loves interviewing, in addition to anchoring, and was one of seven local reporters invited to meet President Obama at the White House. He also excels at live reporting and a day before it opened using Skydrone 5, he gave viewers live never-before-seen pictures of the Presidio Parkway.
