She witnessed her grandmother’s achievements, such as becoming the State Representative of District 65, serving as the President of the Progressive League of College Station, and running her own business. These experiences taught Finney important values like hard work, commitment, and determination from a very young age.

According to Finney, the Mt. Nebo AME Church in her underprivileged community offered her the first chance to start public speaking. She recalls her grandmother encouraging her by saying, “Speak LOUDLY … and clearly! I want to hear you in the back of the church.” With practice and determination, Finney honed her public speaking skills and became proficient at addressing an audience. Professional Career

Finney serves at FOX 19 – WXIX as a Morning Anchor of the 5 AM, 6 AM, and 8 AM newscasts. Prior to joining FOX 19, Finney worked as a News Anchor at WHP-TV in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. There she spent 2 years (from October 2019 to September 2021). Before that, Finney served as a Morning News Anchor at KALB-TV in Alexandria, Louisiana from September 2018 to September 2019.

From August 2016 to September 2018, Finney worked as a News Anchor at KTBS-TV in Shreveport, Louisiana. In her earlier career, Finney worked as a Features Reporter at Sinclair Broadcast Group in Little Rock, Arkansas. There she worked from December 2012 to July 2016.

Finney began her journey in her hometown at KATV Channel 7 News. There she hosted a well-liked segment called “The Morning Juice.” The segment focused on various subjects, including the most recent updates in the world of entertainment and the debates surrounding religious freedom laws in Arkansas and Indiana. However, it was during the tragic Charleston shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina that Finney discovered her true purpose: to share stories that profoundly affect the lives of ordinary individuals.

According to Finney, she witnessed a remarkable display of connection within the AME Church. It was when her church members from the 12th District extended their love and support to those in the 7th District. The tragic events at Mother Emanuel had deeply affected many AMEs across the nation, leaving them distressed. As a reporter at her news station, Finney worked diligently to provide local coverage of this heartbreaking incident.

She connected her colleagues with the 12th District’s bishop, local AME members, and even other AMEs who were acquainted with the victims in Charleston. It was during this time that Finney realized she had a greater calling. The debate on gun laws resurfaced, and it was at Channel 7 where Finney’s passion for policy, government, and its impact on ordinary people was ignited. She knew then that she wanted to become a trusted journalist who sifts through falsehoods to present the truth, all while genuinely caring for people.

Finney mentioned that she gained a clearer understanding of her purpose when she started working for KTBS First News in Shreveport. Right after she was hired, she was immediately thrown into the realm of general reporting. On her 3rd day at work, she was assigned to cover the floods that occurred in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in August 2016. She described it as a truly eye-opening experience. While growing up, she had witnessed impoverished conditions, but the floods completely devastated neighborhoods and businesses. Together with her photographer, she filmed the scenes from boats as both emergency crews and ordinary people worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped in their homes.

Finney listened to stories from individuals who had traveled from other parts of the state solely to offer assistance. However, she also witnessed numerous tears as people struggled to figure out their next steps after losing everything they owned. She observed hundreds of individuals sleeping on small cots at Red Cross shelters, and others wading through water to salvage anything they could from their businesses. Finney emphasized that this experience deepened her gratitude for the opportunity to show the reality of the situation and inspire others to lend a hand.

As the anchor of the 9 a.m. and Midday news, Finney frequently connected with her local community and its leaders. During interviews on her shows, she made an effort to highlight events that were beneficial for residents. She invited city council members, state leaders, and U.S. congressmen to share insights on how new laws and policies would impact the public.

While serving as the main anchor at News Channel Five, Finney honed her investigative abilities by providing ongoing coverage of fraud within government assistance programs. She shed light on the alarming amount of money, amounting to tens of millions of dollars, being wasted. Additionally, she reported on the thousands of individuals who were being removed from the program and the subsequent overhaul of the Medicaid application process.

During her time as the Weekend Anchor at CBS 21 News, Finney witnessed firsthand the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on both local communities and the nation as a whole. She reported on how the pandemic impacted residents, delving into the challenges they faced on a local level, as well as the broader national implications.
