The Nashville Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented Gibbs with the 2008 Emmy Award for a best feature story for “Homeless Singers.” She also got nominated for an Emmy Award for her story about a young boy in Spring Lake, NC, on Valentine’s Day called “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine.”
Gibbs also went to New York City alongside a Durham breast cancer survivor and met “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts. In addition to that, she also met a young mother with cystic fibrosis and risked giving birth and a double-lung transplant.
Gibbs is also very active when it comes to helping out in the community and participates in local golfers in the “Jimmy V Jr Celebrity Golf Classic,” American Cancer Society, the MDA, and Building Together Ministries. She went to Auburn University where she attained her BA degree in journalism (PR) and a minor in sociology.
Prior to joining ABC 11, she worked at WTVQ (Lexington, KY) where she served as the morning anchor/reporter.
