The Nashville Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presented Gibbs with the 2008 Emmy Award for the best feature story for “Homeless Singers.” She also got nominated for an Emmy Award for her story about a young boy in Spring Lake, NC, on Valentine’s Day called “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine.”
Gibbs also went to New York City alongside a Durham breast cancer survivor and met “Good Morning America’s” Robin Roberts. In addition to that, she also met a young mother with cystic fibrosis and risked giving birth and a double-lung transplant.
Gibbs is also very active when it comes to helping out in the community and participates in local golfers in the “Jimmy V Jr Celebrity Golf Classic,” American Cancer Society, the MDA, and Building Together Ministries. She went to Auburn University where she attained her BA degree in journalism (PR) and a minor in sociology.
