Bailey is working for WNCT, serving as an anchor of WNCT 9 On Your Side at 5, 6, and 11 p.m. In addition to that role, he serves as the sports director for WNCT 9 On Your Side. Further, he works as the host and producer of the region’s longest-running high school football show, “Touchdown Friday.”
Bailey initially joined WNCT as a news reporter and weekend sports anchor. In April 1986, he was promoted to sports director. His broadcasting career started in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he covered high school football and basketball games for local radio and cable television.
During his career, Bailey ahs won several awards and honors. For instance, the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas granted him the “TV Sportscaster of the Year” Award in 2019, 2020, and 2021. He holds 22 awards from the North Carolina Associated Press. In 1988, he won East Carolina University’s Professional Broadcaster of the Year Award.
Bailey served as an inductee of the ‘George Whitfield Hall of Fame’ in 2023. Further, he has received honors from the North Carolina High School Baseball Coaches, the Raleigh Hot Stove League, North Carolina Special Olympics, the City of Greenville for community service, the Pitt-Greenville Hot Stove League, and Pitt-Greenville Special Olympics.
Bailey worked as a board director of the Greenville Chapter of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation. Additionally, he worked with Beau’s Buddies, a cancer awareness group, and with Special Olympics in Pitt County.
Annually, Bailey works as an MC for the ‘Walk to Defeat ALS’ and other regional fundraisers. He worked as the coach of the Carolina Diamonds from 1999 to 2005. Further, he has been the coach of WNCT’s team in the Exceptional Community Baseball League for special needs children since 2006. Last but not least, he works as an advisory Board member in the ECBL.
