They first met while they were both in the same college, in her 2nd semester. The Carithers used to work together in the Physics I laboratory. While there in college, they dated for 3 and a half years. In their senior year in college, Collin went down on his knees and proposed to her at Bellingrath Gardens, hence they got engaged.

The couple loves spending their spare time together, either kayaking, swimming (she used to compete in swimming from when she was 4 until she turned 18), wakeboarding, trying any sports, boating, playing tennis, or just chilling with their dogs, Scout and Biscuit. She says that in Daphne, she watched all the weather forecasters on TV and realized always aspired to pursue a career in meteorology. Carithers visited the WKRG studio just after Hurricane Katrina, and from that time, she knew her dream was to become a weather forecaster at WKRG News 5.

Before joining the station, she worked for WeatherVision in Jackson, Mississippi as a broadcast meteorologist. While there, Carithers served as a broadcaster and forecaster of a number of TV stations across the US. While in college, she served at the National Weather Center in Norman, Oklahoma as a Hollings Intern.

Carithers’s passion for weather began when she was at Spanish Fort School. She used to check the weather regularly, attempted to predict the weather, and made plans in case of emergencies for her family.

When Carithers was in her third and fourth years at the University of South Alabama, she got a scholarship from the Atmospheric Administration and the National Oceanic called the Hollings Scholarship. Also, while at the University of South Alabama, she learned and got guidance from John Nodar, a meteorologist on the News 5 First Alert Storm Team. Carithers wrote a paper in college about sea breezes to help predict them better.

Carithers and her husband, Collin, love riding their horse when they are not at work. She once stated in an interview that she used to ride horses and show English Hunter/Jumpers, as she was growing up. She always aspired to own horses when she was young. Carithers’s husband, Collin, has been a member of the Mobile Police Department’s Auxiliary Mounted Unit. Occasionally (like once a month), Collin rides with them in events such as football games and Mardi Gras.
