She began her career at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, where she served as an entry-level assistant on the international assignment desk. Amanpour was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the month of June 2021. Christiane was diagnosed with this disease by an international journalist when she went to her doctor in London. When she went for an annual screening, a grapefruit-sized cyst was discovered on her right ovary.

She states that she had major successful surgery in order to remove it. Amanpour further states that she would undergo several months of chemotherapy.  Amanpour states that she credits her medical experts and support from loved ones which include her 22-year-old son Darius John for getting her through the tough times.
