Longet started her acting career on TV in 1963, appearing in two episodes of a show called McHale’s Navy. She also acted in a movie of the same name in 1964. In the 1960s, she took on various roles in adventure TV series such as Twelve O’Clock High, Combat!, The Name of the Game, The Rat Patrol, Hogan’s Heroes, and Alias Smith and Jones. In 1965, she played Sharhri Javid in an episode of Mr. Novak.
She made several appearances on The Andy Williams Show and other music programs. Andy Williams described her as a beautiful French singer. Her big break came in 1966 when she guest starred on Run for Your Life and performed a bilingual song called “Meditation”. The episode aired on May 16, 1966, and caught the attention of Herb Alpert, who offered her a recording contract.
She recorded singles and albums for A&M Records from 1966 to 1970. “Meditation” was her first single with A&M, and she also recorded songs by Antônio Carlos Jobim. In 1968, she starred alongside Peter Sellers in the successful movie The Party and sang a song called “Nothing to Lose”.
In 1971, she joined Barnaby Records and released singles and two albums. She had success on the music charts with her albums Claudine, The Look of Love, and Love Is Blue. Longet faced legal trouble when she was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of her boyfriend, Vladimir “Spider” Sabich (an Olympic skier), at his home on March 21, 1976, in Aspen, Colorado. During her trial, she claimed that the gun went off accidentally while Vladimir was demonstrating how it worked. Throughout the trial, her then-husband Andy Williams publicly stood by Longet, providing financial support for her legal defense and accompanying her to and from the courthouse. When asked about his unwavering support for his ex-wife, Andy explained that they remained friends because she was the mother of their children, even though they no longer wanted to be married.
Following the criminal trial, the Sabich family decided to pursue civil legal action against Longet. However, instead of going through a trial, the case was resolved through an out-of-court settlement. As part of the settlement agreement, Longet agreed to never publicly discuss or write about the incident or the terms of the settlement. This ensured that the details surrounding the killing and the resolution of the case remained private and confidential.
Since her conviction for negligent homicide in connection with the shooting death of her boyfriend, former Olympic skier Spider Sabich, in 1977, she has chosen to lead a private life. Longet has kept a low public profile, avoiding extensive media attention and maintaining her privacy.
