She released her 1st album, “For My Friends”, independently. In the year 1979, she signed with Singspiration! and released her 1st professional record, Sandi’s Song. Due to a mistake in the labeling, her name was listed as Sandi Patti, and she used that name for the next one-and-a-half decades before changing it to Sandi Patty.
Her career took off after winning two GMA Dove Awards in the year 1982 and singing backup for the Bill Gaither Trio. Two years later, she headlined her 1st national tour and gained national recognition when her performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was included in the ABC Statue of Liberty re-dedication broadcast in the year 1986. This led to appearances on mainstream television shows like The Tonight Show and Christmas in Washington. She also sang the national anthem at the Indianapolis 500 multiple times.
In the year 1990, Patty released the popular record Another Time…Another Place, included the inspirational single “I’ll Give You Peace”. The album reached #2 on the Billboard Christian Albums chart. Patty’s concerts were extremely successful, often selling out arenas and concert halls across the United States. She had a busy schedule, performing over 200 concerts a year and managing a large staff.
During her peak years, Patty was known as the singer who is highest-paid in the industry of Christian music, earning over $100,000 per appearance. This was mainly due to her extensive touring and high-profile public engagements.
From 2010 to Present
In the year 2010, Patty released The Edge of the Divine, an album with new songs and a duet with Heather Payne. It was accompanied by a book with the same title. In the following year, she released Broadway Stories, showcasing her talent for stage standards and pop tunes from the Great American Songbook. The album was praised for her commanding vocals and orchestral arrangements.
In the year 2012, Patty received rave reviews for her performance as Dolly Levi in the concert stage version of “Hello, Dolly!” with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She served as a judge and mentor for the Songbook Academy, a summer program for high school students, for 1 year (2012-2013).
Two years later, Patty retired from touring to spend more time with her grandchildren.
