Thompson serves at KCRG as a Weekday Morning Meteorologist. Before joining KCRG, she was still a student in college. Thompson got into storm chasing while in college. He went on 2 11-day trips on the Great Plains with a group of 20 friends, following storms wherever they went. He also learned how to do weather forecasts for TV from Ginger Zee, who is now the Chief Meteorologist at ABC.
While in college, Thompson did an internship at the KCRG-TV9 Weather Lab for a whole summer. He worked with Joe Winters (Chief Meteorologist) and the First Alert Storm crew to start learning how to be a TV meteorologist. Upon his graduation from college, he went back to KCRG-TV9 and worked behind the scenes for a number of years. He helped with research and made weather pictures for use on TV.
Thompson has lived in Eastern Iowa for most of his life, so he knows we have lots of different weather during the year. Spring is his favorite weather season, but he enjoys the changes and the challenges of forecasting the weather in all of Iowa’s seasons. He resides in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During his spare time, he likes rooting for the Iowa Hawkeyes, playing video games, strolling across local trails, going to the park, or taking photographs.
