Madsen played this role up to August 2019 when he retired from news anchoring and became the podcast host. He was the first television broadcaster from WSHM-TV to be inducted into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame in September 2017.
While still working for WSHM-TV, Madsen took another job as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Massachusetts from September 2000 to May 2014. At the University of Massachusetts, he taught broadcasting news writing and reporting in the journalism department. Madsen was also inducted into the New England Science’s Silver Circle and the Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts for his achievement in broadcasting and his community work in 2011.
Before joining WSHM-TV, he worked for WWLP-TV from 1980 to 1992. During his tenure at WWLP-TV, he also served as a Public Affairs Manager at Friendly Ice Cream Corporation from June 1991 to December 1991. Madsen had previously worked for WHMP Radio in Northampton from 1970 to 1980. He started his broadcasting career in 1970 where he worked for One year at WMAS in Springfield.
