Most recently, Alan served at 13News Now – WVEC as a weekday evening news anchor, appearing on the 5 PM, 5:30 PM, 6 PM, and 11 PM newscasts. Before joining WVEC, he worked for KOCO-TV in Oklahoma as a news anchor for nearly 4 years (August 1995 – May 1999). Prior to that, Alan served at WLFL CW22 in Raleigh, North Carolina as a news anchor for about 3 years (August 1992 – August 1995).
Over the year with 13News – WVEC, Alan covered many significant stories. He was part of the WVEC’s team that reported on the Virginia Tech shootings in the year 2007. Also, he anchored the BRAC’s (Base Realignment And Closure) effect on Naval Air Station Oceana. This coverage won the station an Emmy. Additionally, Alan hosted WVEC’s “U.S.S. Monitor: An Ironclad Adventure in History”.
Throughout his career, he has received several honors and accolades for his remarkable work. For his work as an investigator of the weaknesses in the Virginia Beach Emergency Response System, he earned recognition from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and also won an Edward R. Alan worked for 13News – WVEC for 23 years (2000 – 2023). He announced his departure from the station on a 6 p.m. newscast on May 24, 2023. He explained that he wanted to open a new chapter of his life and that he wanted to embrace new opportunities/challenges. However, he did not mention his next stop – he actually stated that he was unsure where “the new road” would take him! However, his colleague at 13News, Dan Kennedy, once mentioned that Alan retired from his journalism career. There will be an update as soon as he announces his next stop or as soon as he confirms his retirement.
