For feature reporting, Highfield has also been honored with the Golden Quill Awards, and for his flood reporting, he has won a Matrix award. In January 2022, Pittsburgh Today Live’s Facebook Page posted a video, wishing Highfield a speedy surgery recovery. This caught many of Highfield’s fans unaware because he seemed to be okay with no health issues. However, it has never been known what type of disease Highfield was battling to date.
