For feature reporting, Highfield has also been honored with the Golden Quill Awards, and for his flood reporting, he has won a Matrix award. In his hometown, he became an inductee of the Ford City Hall of Fame in the year 2008, and 5 years later, he again became an inductee of the Armstrong County Sports Hall of Fame for his coverage of multiple sports-related stories.

In January 2022, Pittsburgh Today Live’s Facebook Page posted a video, wishing Highfield a speedy surgery recovery. This caught many of Highfield’s fans unaware because he seemed to be okay with no health issues. However, it has never been known what type of disease Highfield was battling to date. There will be an update as soon as he reveals anything to do with the surgery or basically his health, in the limelight.
