Johnson and Peggy Finnegan formed the longest-running anchor team in Pittsburgh TV history. They worked together until Peggy’s retirement in the year 2020. In the year 2016, they were recognized as the Broadcasters of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters, making them the first anchor team to receive this honor. Their outstanding career achievements in journalism were further acknowledged when they received the President’s Award for career achievement in Journalism from the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania in the year 2015.

After college, he started his career on the air at a TV station in Gainesville. After that, he worked at stations in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Chattanooga, before now moving to Atlanta. Throughout his career, he has won several honors for his incredible work. He holds an Emmy, as well as several Pittsburgh Press Club Golden Quills. He also holds other local and regional honors.

Throughout his career, he has reported on significant national events, such as the impactful events of the September 11 attacks, the Democratic National Convention in the year 1988, the devastating 1989 San Francisco earthquake, space shuttle launches, and the tragic Oklahoma City bombing. However, one particular event stands out as his favorite: the Quecreek Mine rescue. He holds this story close to his heart because he had the opportunity to cover it from the beginning until the end, and the outcome was a true success with all 9 miners being rescued alive.

When coming to his education, he is a proud alumnus of the University of Florida, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting. During his leisure time, he likes to volunteer to various charity causes.

Starting from the year 2002, Johnson has dedicated his time on a weekly basis to volunteer at the National Council of Jewish Women’s Children’s Waiting Room, located at the Family Court building. His role there involves providing babysitting services for the children of both litigants and jurors. Additionally, Johnson has a rich history of volunteer work with St. Barnabas Health, demonstrating his commitment to helping others in need.
