David Sawyer Education
Sawyer joined the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 when he finished his high school education. In 1988, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Arts degree in Chemistry.
Sawyer later studied Science Education at East Carolina University from 1988 to 1990. There, he worked as a graduate assistant Varsity Football Coach. He then joined North Carolina State University in 1994, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology in 1995.

Sawyer is working for WNCT, serving as a meteorologist for WNCT 9 Storm Team Weather. Further, he anchors WNCT 9 On Your Side across several dayparts during the week. He has over 30 years of forecasting experience. This is his second time working for the station, previously serving as WNCT’s weekend weather anchor and a morning/noon meteorologist from 1990 to 2004.
During his first stint at WNCT, Sawyer was part of an awarded nonstop broadcast of eastern North Carolina’s worst natural crisis after Hurricane Floyd in 1999. He will always recall the honor of serving the viewers who handled such damaging losses and inconveniences by the floodwaters that submerged the WNCT 9 On Your Side viewing region.
In 2004, Sawyer left WNCT to become a Chief Meteorologist at the CBS television station in Birmingham, Alabama. There, he spent 5 years forecasting contrite weather patterns in central Alabama like outbreaks of severe weather that often involved tornadoes.
Sawyer rejoined WNCT on July 27, 2009, as a meteorologist for WNCT 9 On Your Side. He is thrilled to update the viewers with accurate forecasts and alert them with any threats of severe weather.
Besides studying and forecasting the weather, Sawyer is passionate about teaching and serving others. This passion improves his desire to partake in school assemblies or other community meetings when invited.
