O’Donnell has won four Best Sports Category APTRA awards. He is a multiple Emmy award winner in Northern California, including Emmys for his role as a sports anchor and feature reporter. He appears on the KPIX 5 news from Sunday through Thursday. In August 2000, O’Donnell joined the KPIX 5 News team and has been a fixture in sports broadcasting in the Bay Area since 1982, having covered every major sports team in their respective championships.

As the pre-season face of the San Francisco 49ers, O’Donnell spent 13 seasons and works as the sideline reporter. With Fox Sports, KPIX, Comcast Sports Network, and Bay TV, he has done football and basketball play-by-play. O’Donnell was Executive Sports Director at KRON-TV prior to KPIX 5.

While at KRON, on five different occasions, O’Donnell’s efforts helped win the station the distinction of “The Best Sports Cast in California” by the Associated Press. O’Donnell has anchored sports with KOVR in Sacramento and KFTY in Santa Rosa alongside his job at KRON.

In addition to the daily sports show on KPIX 5 News Monday-Friday at 6 and 11 pm Sunday-Thursday at 10 pm on CW 44 / Cable 12, O’Donnell presented or hosted KPIX 5’s NFL post-game show “The 5th Quarter,” “49ers Preview,” “Last Truthful Sports Show,” and the number one rated Sunday night sports show, “Gameday” at 11:30 pm every Sunday night.
