While in Hampton Roads, he broadcast several high-profile stories, including spearheading the station’s broadcast of a fatal terror attack on the campus of Old Dominion University.
Daniel spent months in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, covering the year-long protests and changes in the city following a deputy-involved shooting. He also helped debut the station’s streaming platform for breaking news.
Daniel shed light on a unique partnership between a Black farmer, a church, and a local food bank to feed thousands in the community in Virginia. That story earned him a Virginia Associated Press award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
Daniel serves as a member of the National Association of Black Journalists(NABJ). He was the president of the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals, the region’s affiliate chapter of the NABJ. Moreover, he worked closely with college students at Hampton University and Norfolk State University.
Before working in Virginia, Daniel was a reporter and evening anchor in Central Illinois. There, he received an Edward R. Murrow for his work on race relations and matters facing the Black community in the area.
