Malloy serves at WMAZ 13 News as an evening news co-anchor, appearing on the 5 PM, 6 PM, 10 PM, and 11 PM newscasts on Eyewitness News alongside Lori Johnson. In addition to her role at the station, she also works as a co-host of the program, “Football Friday Night”, which broadcasts at 11:35 PM from August to December every year.
Malloy began as a sports director at the station and he held that role for 11 years (from May 1982 to the 1993 fall). Prior to joining WMAZ-TV, Malloy worked for WRBL-TV 3 News in Columbus, Georgia as a sports director for 2 and a half years. It was actually at WRBL that he started his career in broadcasting.
From the Flood of 1994 to 9/11, when the biggest stories affecting Central Georgia and the world were happening, Malloy reported on all of them. When he celebrated 40 years with WMAZ in May 2022, one of his colleagues described him as being like the Swiss Army knife of news anchors, able to play any role, even if it was totally unnecessary.
In the year 1982, Malloy covered The Georgia Bulldogs, the Cardinals as World Series champs, and the NBA’s “Showtime.” Frank’s “twin” was coach Barney Hester, who won 11 state championships. Over the years, as Barney earned over 330 football wins, Malloy and Barney, along with their families, grew close and formed a lasting bond and used to report on sports events together.
Malloy followed many players over the years, one of whom was Joe Dupree, a talented quarterback from Southwest Macon. Joe went on to shine at both UGA and Georgia Southern before coming back to his alma mater as head coach.
