Grace’s breakthrough came when KGMB 9 News offered her a position as a general assignment reporter. Initially, she envisioned days sipping mai tais and soaking up the sun on the beach. However, she quickly realized the challenges of being a good reporter, especially under tight deadlines in broadcast news. Her experiences taught her valuable lessons.
Lee recalls the anticipation of witnessing the arrival of the first sailors from Operation Iraqi Freedom at Pearl Harbor and the emotional reunions with their families. She also went into Maui’s remote areas for an exclusive interview following a small plane crash. During her time there, she witnessed the support among grieving family members. Twenty months later, Lee left Honolulu for Sacramento, California, where she joined the reporting team at KCRA 3 News. Over three years, Grace covered significant events such as the Scott Peterson double murder trial verdict, and Barry Bonds’ 700th home run at AT&T Park. Additionally, she covered Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ascension after a historic recall. Lee also reported on extreme weather conditions, from snowstorms to floods to triple-digit heat.

When she received an offer to return to Hawaii and start a new morning show, Sunrise, she took the opportunity. The vision was to create a dynamic program with a diverse cast and rapid-fire news delivery, aiming to become the top-rated morning show within a year. However, it took 15 months to achieve that goal. After three years of intense work and endless jokes at Sunrise, Lee left her colleagues and moved to San Francisco to join KPIX, a CBS-owned station. During her tenure there, she contributed to various shows, learning from esteemed professionals in the industry. However, after more than two years, Lee felt the pull to return home. She works for HNN in Honolulu, Hawaii as a Sunrise News Anchor from 4:30 am to 9 am, Monday to Friday.
