Loyd is the executive producer and main anchor for WGXA News. He anchors on weeknights at 5 pm on FOX 24 and at 6 pm and 11 pm on ABC 16. He joined WGXA in January 2021 after working as a morning/midday anchor and morning executive producer at the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Ga.
Before returning to television, Greg spent years teaching composition in community colleges in Florida and Georgia, where he enjoyed helping students become confident communicators. He holds a Master’s in English from Valdosta State University and an undergraduate degree in Media Communication from Florida State University, with a journalism minor from Florida A&M University.
Greg’s broadcasting journey began at WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida, where he started as a part-time master control operator and worked his way up to an internship in the news department. He then became the Valdosta bureau chief at WALB in Albany before transitioning to WFXL in Albany, where he rose from reporter to weeknight anchor. It was at WFXL where he reunited with Mercer Merrill Van Schoor, his lifelong best friend and colleague who helped him return to television news in 2016. Proud to call Middle Georgia home, Greg feels honored to be part of the WGXA news team.
