In April 2012, Childers tweeted a link to an article from a fringe website promoting “birther” conspiracy theories; the article claimed that the Barack Obama campaign threatened Chelsea Clinton’s life if the Clintons discussed “Obama’s birth certificate or lack thereof.” Childers responded to criticism of her tweet by saying she was “asking for an opinion.” Childers, like other Fox News hosts, has questioned the scientific consensus on climate change, saying on air in 2016 that “the science is still in question.”
Fox News fired Childers in March 2020 after she came to work and appeared on-air while ill during the COVID-19 pandemic. The network confirmed that her contract would be terminated in July 2020, after which she would not appear on the network for several months. Childers had tested negative for COVID-19 and had repeatedly tweeted at the network asking to be reinstated.
