At a young age, Hurricane Hugo slammed into his hometown, it was one of the worst hurricanes in U.S. history that fueled the fire in him. From there, he developed a passion for the weather where he decided to forecast the weather when he grows up. He is a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina in Charlotte where he majored in atmospheric science and geography. His passion for weather led him to upgrade his studies where he pursued his master’s degree focusing on severe storm forecasting and lightning in the Carolinas.
He interned at local stations in Charlotte. Arnold began his first job interning at the NBC affiliate in Charlotte as their weather producer. During his time there, he honed his skills as an eventual television meteorologist and learned the ropes of the television weather business.
While at his first on-air job at the NBC affiliate, he reported the New Bern area of North Carolina, Greenville, and Washington. That first gig came with the first-hand experience of reporting the severe weather in Carolinas. For the 6 years he spent there, he reported a few snowstorms and various tornado outbreaks. He is much excited about the experience he received reporting six tropical storms and four land-falling hurricanes. His most memorable assignment was the covering of Hurricane Isabel.
The South Carolina Associated Press awarded him the Best Weathercast in 2011. During his free time, he enjoys working in the yard, hanging out at the beach, cooking, watching as well as spending quality time with family. In addition, he is an avid fan of Fleetwood Mac music group, his wicked sense of humor is what makes him unique, and is a very big fearer of spiders.
