Jamie Cooper Career

Cooper serves at WAAY 31 News as a host and producer of “Alabama Original: The Country Rover Jamie Cooper”. He began his career at Huntsville Educational Television (E-TV) in the year 1974 before moving to WAAY-TV the following year. There, he worked as a photographer and film splicer, which he really enjoyed. He spent 17 years at WAAY-TV, trying out different roles.

Cooper even started a show called WAAY Too Early. Later on, he created Cooper & Company. In the year 1999, Cooper moved to WHDF-TV in Florence, AL but still worked at WAFF-TV in Huntsville, AL. At WHDF-TV, Cooper told lots of stories about local people, from Fort Payne to Florence. He shared nearly 1000 stories and had many fun moments with regular folks, putting them in the spotlight and making the show a hit.

In the year 2003, Cooper and his wife, Gloria, purchased ZTV-11, a small TV station in Athens. They kept doing Cooper & Company for nearly 2 decades. When they sold the station, Cooper felt like it was the right time to bring back the Country Rover. Since he was a kid in New Hope, Cooper dreamt of being on TV, inspired by Country Boy Eddie, who he watched in the mornings. Even though a college professor once said his Southern accent would hold him back, Cooper did not let that stop him.
