Ryherd serves at KCRG as a midday meteorologist. She joined the station at the time of derecho, which was a whirlwind of the first few days. Before joining KCRG, she worked as a meteorologist for KOLN/KGIN-TV in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was there that she began her career in meteorology.
Ryherd loved the exciting and always different weather when she was young, and she says that she enjoys that her job is always changing. She got her first job right after college, only 2 days later, at KOLN/KGIN. She has worked for Gray TV’s group of TV stations across Nebraska for three years. These stations were KNOP-TV, KSNB-TV, and KNEP-TV.
She holds a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorologist, which she received in the year 2021 from the AMS (American Meteorological Society). This special title is given to weather experts who show they are good at science and can explain the weather well. To get this title, meteorologists need to have a degree in weather science, pass a tough written test, and have their weather reports on TV checked to see if they use good graphics, explanations, and presentation.
Jan enjoys teaching people about the weather where they live. Her favorite thing about her job is visiting schools and going out in the community to share her passion for weather and science with future scientists. She proudly supports and encourages young women to follow their dreams in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).
