As the chief meteorologist, she served as the lead meteorologist in January 2023 in North Georgia a dozen tornadoes tore the area. She first joined the station in June 2008 where she served as the Morning 4:30 am, 5:00 am, and 6:00 am Meteorologist and noon Meteorologist up to May 2019 when she received a promotion to be the station’s chief meteorologist. While serving as the morning and noon meteorologist, Jennifer presented continuous live coverage during potentially life-threatening severe weather events. She also reported when the disastrous ice storm crippled the city in 2014 and in September 2009 during the epic floods, she reported continuous severe weather. In addition to this, Jennifer was on air in 2008 when Fay produced almost six tornadoes.

In addition to her role as the morning and noon meteorologist, Valdez took another role as a co-host of the Better Morning Atlanta show from September 2011 to September 2014. Additionally, she also became the host of Atlanta Plugged In, a 30-minute-long lifestyle and entertainment show from July 2015 to September 2016.

Before joining CBS46, she worked for WYFF as a Weekend Evening 6 pm and 11 pm Meteorologist from May 2005 to May 2008. The article stated that she had suffered from colon-related illness diverticulitis dozens of times over the past 20 years. It further stated that a part of her colon was prone to infection and she’d require antibiotics. “I’d end up in severe pain and fever,” Valdez said. In 2022 alone she had been hospitalized three times and the doctors told her a part of her colon should be removed and as a result, she chose elective surgery.
