Fortson serves at ABC7 News in San Francisco, CA as the breaking news and traffic anchor. Before joining ABC7, she worked for WAVE 3 News, the NBC affiliate in Louisville, KY as the general assignment reporter/multimedia journalist.
For her high school paper, The Tiger Tales, she got her first real experience writing news. Her association with radio and TV began in college. One of her best options to date, and still tell, was to choose Howard. With different networks and local news stations, her professors were supportive and helped her secure great internships.
She was awarded the White House Correspondents’ Association Scholarship during her junior year. The award was awarded to her by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. It was the highlight of her career as an undergraduate.
Upon graduation from college, she went to Maryland’s eastern shore to work for WMDT-TV. SHOCK of Society! She posted on chicken, lobster, and NASCAR chicken farms. It was a terrific experience and she did it all. She was a reporter, anchor, editor, and photographer — and one day, when someone didn’t turn up, she even worked as a floor manager.
She spent just under two years in Maryland before going to work for WAVE-TV in Louisville, KY. Now she’s got a passion for the Kentucky Derby, hot chicken, and so many wonderful people in the state of Bluegrass. When coming to her education, she is a grad of Howard University in Washington, D.C.
