In June 2002, he joined WTVF-TV as a general assignment reporter, working on regional beats and developing story ideas daily. He frequently did live shots and spot news coverage during his two years and two months there.
From November 2010 to October 2013, Joe was a reporter at KING-TV, covering a variety of stories from hard news to features as a general assignment and special projects reporter. In July 2013, he joined NBC News as a part-time correspondent, becoming a full-time reporter in October 2013.
Joe then became a West Coast correspondent based at the NBC News West Coast Bureau in Universal City. He anchors NBC News NOW from 7 am to 11 am and appears on the Today Show on Saturdays. Additionally, he reports for all NBC News platforms, including Today, NBC Nightly News, and MSNBC. In 2014, he won an Emmy with photojournalist Jeff Christian in the “Feature News Report” category and also won in the writing category for his composite “Fryer’s Favorite Features.”
