Previously, he served WUSA as a weekend and noon meteorologist. Marler had a problem in college: he didn’t know what to do with his life. He loved science but didn’t want to be stuck in a lab. Marler wanted more than a small classroom to teach. He liked to Hamm it, but did not know whether it was a “job skill.”
Then he had a moment of career clarity one spring evening, guiding his actions for years. Keith decided to combine his two dream job as a teacher with a game show host, and he was (please) a weatherman. Keith had his first taste of broadcasting when he interned on TV sets in Washington, D.C. while working on a master’s diploma.
Although he was “the worst curriculum video clip of the world,” Keith managed, at the KBJR-News6 in Duluth, to end his first television job – his first trip to Minnesota! He packed up his life and moved to the north with Keith and his wife Susan (whom he met and got married to at the University of Maryland).
Further, his meteorological skills grew in Duluth and he attained a coveted seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society. Keith moved back to the nation’s capital after 3 years of snow, cold, and lutefisk to be weekend weather and noon at the WUSA in D.C. (see internship connections, do pay off!).
Keith and Susan decided to expand their family at last while there. Unfortunately, their son was prematurely born and died of Trisomy-13 (a genetic disorder). Within the days of Keith and Susan deciding to start again, FOX 9 called out, “Hey…would you like to go back to Minnesota?”
So in 2003, the Marlers packed their lives and went to the Twin Cities halfway around the country for the third time in six years. At Fox 9 Keith has provided more than 100,000 Morning Weather Reports for The 9s. Additionally, he attained multiple awards and acted in various charities (the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the American Heart Association, and eQuality, to name but a few).
Keith Marler Hobbies
Keith likes to spend time with his friends and his family (home, his favorite holiday spot), always has fun with the good cinema (a six-year-old video store employee holdout), leisurely fan of comic books (yes, comic books). Further, he enjoys the afternoon with his family (the ONLY benefit from starting work before 3 a.m.!). His wife, Susan, Gracie’s daughter, and Jack’s son, Keith live in Northwest Metro.
