She left the country of Purdue Boilermaker, where she was raised. Carlson graduated in Political Science in Journalism and earned a French minor there.
She went to South Carolina where her first job at the CBS-affiliated CBS Beach market, Florence/Myrtle Beach, took her from college ready to go for an adventure. Carlson was employed as a producer of a weekend and in her first two months, she was rapidly influenced by several big stories including the TWA 800, the Bertha Hurricanes, and the Fran crash.
She later became a reporter/photographer in a “one-man band” and shot and edit his own stories for daily newscasts. After WBTW, WWMT-Ch. 3 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, hired her. While there, she covered the 2000 presidential election uncertainty in West Palm Beach, FL, and Timothy McVeigh’s execution.
Kelcey began to do more research and earn awards in Kalamazoo for her stories on the Register of Sexual Offenders. The weekday morning anchor was later named. Moreover, she spent much of his career at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, N.C. She was hired first as a reporter and then went to newscasts on the weekends and then shows on the weekend.
