She also reports on ABC7 News at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sze started writing for the school newspaper in high school, honing her newly-acquired English skills. She knew that to meet people, ask questions, and find answers, she had a golden ticket. The challenge forced her to come out of her shell and conquer her timidity!
While in college, she interned at virtually every Bay Area TV station, and she reported for the campus radio station KALX. During the Loma Prieta quake, she felt her sense of news kick into high gear. Just an hour prior to the partial collapse, she had driven over the Bay Bridge. She rode straight to the station where she was being interned. She got the opportunity to get interviews and write some stories because it was all hands on deck.
It was a defining moment when she heard the first story she wrote, Go Over the Radio. This was it for me, she realized. Before returning home to the Bay Area and ABC7 News in 1998, she reported in Binghamton, New York, Fresno, Philadelphia, and New York City. It was a dream which had come true. And now, 20 years later, she’s always feeling humbled and privileged by being able to work in my hometown as a journalist.
When coming to her education, Sze graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Magna Cum Laude. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society of Honor. Sze was allowed to study at Oxford University in England with a scholarship from the Asian American Journalists Association. As an emcee, mentor, or advisory board member, Kristen Sze also works with a variety of community groups. She works closely with the Kids and Art Foundation, Helping a Mother Out, My New Red Shoes, the Wender-Weis Children’s Foundation, and the Conference of Professional Businesswomen.
