While she was in college, she got a wonderful chance to work as an intern at WCPO in Cincinnati, Ohio. In her last year of college, she got another chance to intern at KSPR News in Springfield, Missouri, and that’s where she started her 1st role as a journalist. After a couple of months of reporting on accidents, fires, and local events, the station needed someone to handle the weekend weather, and she took on the role of a weather anchor. That’s how her career in weather forecasting began. She then went on to work as a meteorologist in Central Pennsylvania and Northeast, handling the midday and morning weather segments.
During the spring of the year 2007, Capel spent many months preparing for the ‘Flying Pig Marathon’ in Cincinnati. Completing a challenging 26.2-mile race was a significant achievement for her. Although she may consider taking up running again when she has some spare time in the future. Capel’s accomplishments in her profession and contributions to her communities in Central Pennsylvania and Northeast were recognized when she received “The Times Leader’s 40 Under Forty” award, which honors successful individuals who have excelled in their careers and made a positive impact in their communities.

However, her break from FOX 8 News happened because she said something hurtful during a discussion with her co-anchor Wayne Dawson about the Oscars. She used the word, “jigaboo,” which is offensive to African-Americans. This caused a lot of people to get upset and share their feelings on social media.
After the incident, Capel said sorry on TV to the viewers of Channel 8 during the morning news on Tuesday. She felt bad about what she said and didn’t mean to hurt anyone. She explained that she didn’t know the word’s meaning and would never use it on purpose to harm others. As a result, FOX 8 Channel 8 decided not to let Capel appear on the morning news for the rest of the week, but it’s not clear if this is an official suspension or if she’s getting paid during this time.
To understand the seriousness of her mistake and learn from it, Capel met with a group of African-American clergy from Northeast Ohio. Wayne Dawson, who is also a minister, supported her on the morning news, saying he knows her heart and believes she didn’t mean to use the word to be mean.
During her break from the morning news, Capel took time to think about what happened and how it affected others. The station’s statement recognized that many people who know Capel personally and appreciate her work in the community were also affected, and they hope for forgiveness and healing.
