Kyle Clark Lawsuit

In January 2023, a Colorado man, Chad Burmeister, who participated in the January 6 march to the United States Capitol, sued Clark for defamation after the news coverage. Chad claimed the coverage falsely portrayed him as violent during the Capitol march, damaging his reputation and business. Clark and 9News’ parent company, Tegna, argued that the damage was caused by Burmeister’s own social media posts and that their news segment was accurate, not defamatory. The lawsuit, initially dismissed by a district court judge, was scheduled for the Colorado Court of Appeals, but it settled days before the oral argument. The settlement was reached on April 13, 2023, according to court records.
