Phinney serves at KUSI in San Diego, California as the KUSI News on 11 weeknights. Before joining KUSI, she was in Tampa, Florida, where she anchored WWSB’s evening news in Sarasota. While there, Lauren reported on medical breakthroughs and provided detailed coverage of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and the 2012 presidential election.

She spent four days reporting live from the Tampa Republican National Convention and was given a one-on-one interview with President Obama as well. As Sarasota’s local daredevil, Nik Wallenda, made history crossing Niagara Falls and then the Grand Canyon on a high wire, Lauren also broadcast live. Lauren was honored with the 2012 Rising Star award by the Florida Broadcasters Association.

Lauren was the evening anchor for WTXL in Tallahassee, Florida, until WWSB, where her reporting received two press awards associated with it. She also presented a weekly political segment while employed in the state capital and hosted many specials, including a one-hour show on the retirement of Bobby Bowden, the FSU head football coach. Before moving to Florida, Lauren was in Montana reporting for KCFW.

Her experience there landed her an anchor position at KECI in Missoula for “Montana Today.” She won the state’s E.B. runner-up after just a year. ‘Broadcaster of the Year Craney Prize. Also, Lauren worked in Washington, D.C., and spent time collaborating with the D.C. Yeah. Sniper. Lauren received her initial internship at KTLA in Los Angeles during college. When coming to her education, she attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in TV production and a minor in American history, magna cum laude.

Lauren is passionate about well-being and children’s concerns and has worked throughout her career on several non-profit boards. She also works for the Make-A-Wish foundation, the American Cancer Society, and Brides Fighting Breast Cancer.
