LeAnne Taylor Cancer
Taylor is a cancer survivor. It first began as a lump after doing a breast self-exam. At the time, she was working as a medical reporter and did stories on it. This was before she realized that lump could be so serious. She had no idea that it was cancer, so she waited for 2 months to see if it might go away. Unfortunately, it did not go away, and therefore went to consult a doctor. The doctor advised that she should go for a biopsy. A biopsy is a procedure to remove a sample of cells or a piece of tissue from one’s body to be tested in a lab. She was diagnosed with breast cancer after the biopsy and was told that the tumor was real small, 1.1 centimeters.
Taylor wanted to undergo surgery to get it out, and immediately, she went in and had all the proper procedures, and had the surgery. She was fortunate to hear that her lymph nodes did not spread, but then came the next bombshell when the doctor said she should undergo chemotherapy, as well as radiation. From her medical reporting, she knew that patients with cancer do not die because of cancer, but chemotherapy does. Another thing about chemotherapy is that one loses his/her hair. This chemotherapy thing was so awful to her that she was not happy about it. She went through 4 rounds of chemotherapy and 33 days of radiation and fortunately survived.
Taylor has been passionate about battling breast cancer. As a breast cancer survivor, Taylor has been actively involved with Susan G. Komen for the Cure. She currently takes part in the Race for the Cure and is a former president of the Tulsa Affiliate. Taylor holds the “You Make A Difference” Award for bringing her breast cancer battle open to the public. For her continued efforts with Komen, a breast cancer organization in the United States, she was awarded the “Promise of One” Award. She has been inducted into the “Silver Circle” by the Heartland Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in the year 2021.
Taylor is a proud grad of Leadership Tulsa, as well as a former president of the Tulsa Chapter of the Association of Women in Communications. She was voted one of the Williams Women of Inspiration in June 2014. During her leisure, she likes spending time serving in the community as an emcee of various non-profits.
