She knew that she wanted to be a journalist when she was in third grade in Dayton. She spent her recess time interviewing her classmates using a stick as a pretend microphone.

Since she was young, Perry has been interested in creative writing, later realizing that her teachers and some of her family members knew she would dabble in journalism at some point. Her first experienced broadcasting in high school in Harrison Township when she landed a role at KMHS, the in-house school broadcast system.

Before graduating college, Perry landed a job at WCMU-FM. She secured her initial professional job at a commercial radio station in the fall of 1995, when she accepted a job at Hawes-Saunders Broadcast Properties, Inc in Daytona. Her move to Dayton made her reconnect with her friends and family as well as serve her community. She delivered the news at U-92 FM for a few years and was later promoted to serve as the news and community affairs director.

In 2001, Perry secured a reporting position at WHIO, which she started in April of that year. During her two decades at the station, she has worked as a general assignment reporter and news anchor. Some of her unforgettable stories include broadcasting the September 11th Terrorist Attacks, the Memorial Day Tornado Outbreak, the Oregon District Shootings, and the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Community Work

Perry proudly works as a member of the Dayton Area Broadcasters Hall of Fame after her induction in 2019. Further, she has worked on multiple boards and communities and participated in numerous around the Miami Valley. Programs involving children and senior citizens hold a special place in her heart.

Perry has been an MC of hundreds of programs such as NAACP Freedom Fund Banquets, the yearly fundraiser for The Mercy Manor Transitional Home for Women, and The Lou Rawls Parade of Stars- benefitting the United Negro College Fund.
