Austin Chaney Education
Chaney joined the University of Georgia in 2015 after completing his high school education. In 2019, he graduated with a Bachelor Of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences and Geography. During college, he worked as an intern at WSB in Atlanta, the TV station he grew up watching.

Chaney is working for WHIO serving as chief meteorologist for WHIO and Storm Center 7. He rejoins the station after working as a meteorologist for WHIO’s sister station, WSOC in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Chaney enjoys the weather and has been fascinated with the weather and how it all works. While in middle school, he started delivering weather forecasts on his school’s morning newscast. At just 12 years old, he already knew what he wanted to be a TV meteorologist.
Chaney launched his on-air career as a meteorologist at WMAZ in Macon, Georgia. During his time there, he obtained the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist distinction from the American Meteorological Society, making him the youngest meteorologist to receive the seal at the time.
After 3 years at WMAZ, Chaney joined WHIO for the first time in 2021. In this magnitude, he experienced severe weather in the Miami Valley including heat waves, tornadoes, flooding, and snowstorms. Besides tracking storms, he also hosted WHIO’s Touchdown 7 High School Football Highlight show.
Chaney left WHIO briefly and joined WSOC in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2023. He later returned to WHIO as the Chief Meteorologist in August 2023. He is thrilled to lead Storm Center 7 and bring the weather every night, rain or shine.
