Searles is a proud 1994 alumnus of the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned a degree in Physical Geography and Atmospheric Science. There he also studied Aerospace Engineering. Searles serves at WJAR – NBC 10 as a Chief Meteorologist. He also serves as a weekday evening meteorologist, appearing on the 4 PM, 5 PM, 5:30 PM, 6 PM, 7 PM, 10 PM, and 11 PM newscasts. Before joining WJAR-TV, he served at WLNE-TV in Providence, Rhode Island as a chief meteorologist for 13 years and 5 months (August 1994 – December 2007).

Searles worked for WVNY-TV in Burlington, Vermont as a Chief Meteorologist for 1 and a half years, before going to WLNE. That was where he actually began his TV career. While at WVNY, he reported on many significant stories such as the New England storms.

Over the years of his career, he has received several honors. He holds a number of “Best of Rhode Island” Awards, which he received for TV Meteorology. Searles has also been a proud nominee of a number of Boston/New England Emmy Awards. Additionally, the American Meteorological Society Broadcast has honored Searles with their Seal of Approval.

Growing up in Seekonk, Massachusetts, Searles has been through some of the toughest storms in Southern New England, like Hurricanes Bob and Gloria and the Blizzard of 1978. Mark likes to share pictures of these storms with schoolchildren and talk about his own experiences.
